Lake Conroe Residence

Lake Residence

The program brief for a 4-bedroom home located on the western shore of Lake Conroe was a simple request for a relaxed and informal shingle style residence that would encourage and support an outdoor lifestyle as well as varied interests and hobbies, which both clients enjoy.

The resulting residence is oriented toward the lake frontage and organized along an enfilade of primary rooms connected by a gallery, which extends from the Kitchen wing, through the Stair Hall and Entrance Hall, and terminates in the Master Suite wing of the house.  Each of the primary spaces; Kitchen, Living and Dining Room, Study, and Master Bedroom open to the Lakeside Porch, which in turn steps down to a lawn and pier.  A Sewing Room, located on the south west corner of the house, enjoys light on three sides and offers intimate views into two gardens and the front arrival court.  Three bedrooms, and a sitting room are located on the second floor, within the volume of the roof, creating the allusion of a 1 ½ story house as seen from the lake and the street. The exterior palette is comprised of rough surfaced earth tone brick, clay roof tiles, masonry pavers, and accented with painted carpentry work and copper roofing.  The exterior materials are brought into the house with the use of brick flooring and walls and painted wood trim. The architectural palette is complemented by a softer and neutral interior palette of window coverings, wall paper, and furnishings.
